ESPImperium wrote:Personally, i think its a good thing. She is maybes the wrong side of 24/25 for F1, however you never know, Williams once hired a driver that was a 32 year old TD into a race seat and then 5 years later won the WDC and Consructors title with him.

However one thing it does, same with Maria De Viltoa at Marussia, it gives Women a hope to get into F1. Lower down there is a decent ammount of women racers to come thru, GP3 this year will have Vikki Piria, Carmen Jorda and Alice Powell tested for Status and could take their last seat for this season.

Even lower down that that, F2 and local Formula Renault series have plenty of women racing. Its only time that one breaks thru, and enters F1. I think that that there is more and more capable F1 ready women ready to race in the next few years. Time will tell, and i mean time, as both time to develop and lap time will show when and where the first woman to race for almost 4 decades in F1 will start a race.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fe ... ne_drivers

And according to that list Susie isnt the first to step into a Williams car.

Give women hope to get in F1? If some girl is very very good and loves what she is doing and is the fastest she will become F1 champion.
But because there are a lot more boys karting, the chance to find a golden nugget is much higher.
I d love to see a woman in F1, even if she would look and act manly.
If those female youngsters are good you talking about, they should get the seat in the (williams) at young drivers testing.

The comparison of Susie Stoddart and Ralf Schumacher is crap, he was a good F1 and crap in DTM. Stoddart is a crap in DTM and was mediocre in singleseaters, how should she be good in F1? And oh boy she is old!

Pity Michelle Mouton didn't get into an F1 car - I'm sure she would have done something useful with it. Which is more than can be said about this thread.

EDIT: im not saying that i like pay drivers who dont prove themselves and just buy their way into F1...

I believe we all give Pastor Maldornado some stick already, and everyony knows the only reason he's in a F1 car is because he's (his country?) basically bankrolling Williams.

And yet his country could have chosen the First Lady to step into the Williams. But it didn't. They bankrolled a guy that had some potential to race and even got to be GP2 champion.

I don't know why I'm posting on this thread, but I read this on James Allens Homepage:

The signing also received the endorsement of Bernie Ecclestone who, in slightly unfortunate style, remarked: “If Susie is as quick in a car as she looks good out of a car then she will be a massive asset to any team and on top of that she is very intelligent. I am really looking forward to having her in Formula One.”

I especially like the ... and on top of this she is very intelligent...

What a stupid comment from Bernie Eccelstone! Sad!
The speed of Ayrton Senna.
The mind of Alain Prost.
The dedication of Michael Schumacher.
The determination of Alex Zanardi.

Well obviously Bernie couldn't say he looks forward to Susie in F1 based on her stellar career and dito results... He had to say something here...

Susie's hubby Toto Wolff according to reports has taken over the role of team principal in China. He has said that he will not take command of the team and that Parr will be replaced. He mentioned Alex Wurz in connection with a bigger role in F1 for the longer term.

Remember that Bernie demanded that Wolff should play a bigger role at Williams. Some weeks later Parr was fired out of the blue although he was the designated successor of Sir Frank.

All kinds of strange things are going on. I wonder if Williams is prepared for take over by an automotive player in the future (2014).

Donuts - Bernie has a wonderfully dry sense of humour. He was taking the piss. It's a back handed way of saying she isn't talented.

I read that Mr Wolff is in some sort of partnership with Mika Hakkinen. Along with Stoddart racing Mercedes AMG cars, who could be linked to Williams other than Mercedes?
I reckon it will remain independent, but with Benz power from 2014 onwards.
More could have been done.

It was a sponsor that wanted Susie Wolff as a development "driver". This sponsor threatened to leave Williams if that would not have happened. The sponsor thinks this appointment will leave to more women being interested in F1. source AMuS
Which sponsor is it? I think it could be Gilette.

Gillette is a Senna sponsor with Head & Shoulders.

If it were a sponsor, it would be more likley to be Ranstad or Thompson Reuters as sennas 4 sponsors are there for him, not Susie. I think its more like Thompson Reuters personally as both of them are $3m a year sponsors.
