No offense, but what has this got to do with Rob Wilson?

That somewhat weirdly Rob Wilson seems to subscribe to the stereotype that Hamilton is fast neanderthal?

I am not a Hamilton supporter but I think it is unfair to insult the guy in this way.
IMO he is in the top three today.

The Senna visible 'flick' as previously mentioned was possible only because of the cars designed by Gordon Murray.
It is common practise to 'flick' the car at Monaco, either to miss close barriers or get in tighter.
Few cars could respond as well as Gordons designs.

At the end of the day, a top driver will use a huge available set of techniques to choose from for any one corner.
Desk born warriors can sit and analyse them indefinitely and never conclude a full appraisal.

The problem today is that over half of potential driver skill has been wiped out by the use of electronic control over deceleration.
This used to be an area where manual gear shifting and braking made all the difference to corner entry and car balance.
Soon the driver will only be along for the ride.

Just to clarify, i don't actually sign on to that, just that Hamilton somehow got stereotyped as being an supremely talented, yet lazy/dumb...

And Rob Wilson seems to be one who doubts his tech prowess/adaptabilty.

Because we were discussing why, when Lewis is the only driver to apparently go faster than RW, it's Kimi he signs the praises of unreservedly. I thought it was fairly obvious, in context.

Rob Wilson has publicly admitted to having a wet spot for kimi so no surprises when he says Kimi is going to beat Alonso in 2014..

If Rob is such a knob, drivers would not knock on his door for some driving lessons.

And fyi, Kimi beat RW 's lap time on 2nd attempt despite matching him on first attempt. And he told both lewis and kimi to go home, because he has nth to teach them anymore.

Having extreme 1 lap speed is just a single dimension of racing world. As we saw last season, Lewis literally a non factor in pretty much the whole 2nd half of the season despite the revised pirelli being more durable. Contrary to fanbase pov where lewis has 0 weakness.

Vettel for example is much more balance is terms of being a "complete driver." And i doubt vettel is any slower than lewis on 1 lap. I think there are other aspect of Kimi impressed RW that leave too much impact on himself thoughout the years. Well, on his prime, Kimi is unbelievably quick on both weekend masked by reliability issues. Lewis is always there on saturday, but same thing couldn't be said on sunday.

And with age being a factor, relying on 1 lap pace alone will not push you any forward. At young age, you accumulate experience and combine with your talent, you develop your own skillset. Physically, driver will wear out by aging, if you have enough skill set to support yourself, you can always maintain your form despite aging.

Its like NBA, lots of promising players have lots of talent and enormous physical strength. But when they got themselves injured for relying on strength extensively, their career is over for good. Players with great skill set often find the most easy and least burden way to score and win the game.

Raw talent more often than not being overhyped by fanbase globally.

I would take driver coach opinion every single day instead of armchair specialist from UK media.

A driver coach working with a particular driver against lap times in the real world when the driver coach's suggestions result in fastest lap times, of course they should be accepted.
However, if the suggestions are not set against real lap times they can only be as good as any other qualified input.
Rob Wilson is indeed worth listening to but he cannot know all the answers.

In an age of computer games and simulators it is also wise to consider only real world reality and real lap times.

This rob guy is just looking for praises.
I doubt the drivers in F1 have learned most of what they know from him.
This intelligent dumb driver thing is also a bit a personal belief amongst the analysers from the outside.
You can't be dumb and be a world champion, while winning every lower championship that you have competed in.
You also can't mindlessly operate a formula 1 car and be known as the fastest man in Formula 1 today. That would be saying something for those who are using their brains and yet can't figure out how to get around faster than the Neanderthal driver.
For Sure!!

There are many reasons (spoken, unspoken and downright ugly) why people bring weird stereotypes into places where they don't belong.

Driver coaches don't seem to be of much use in F1 (reason why they aren't used outside Williams), maybe they have some use in lower series or with weaker drivers. I would take their words with a pinch of salt.

About Rob Wilson? I believe the man is angling to coach drivers with weaknesses he can identify. Further, he is linked with dubious areas of methods and research which all wants an F1 foothold, but which the likes of Kimi and Lewis (especially) disprove in a very visible way. What to do? Chuck out smoke bombs, arbitrarily choose one driver and slate the other as an "expert."

I looked out for one of these research fields (mental economy) and this turned up:

That forlorn text is meant to be a summary of 20 years of research. Not even mildly convincing.

There´s actually a great interview with both Hamilton and Nico in the latest Autosport issue where they talk about just that.
Here´s Hamilton´s response to those statements.

Also about the talk of Rob Wilson, it´s worth noting that he´s gone from Kimi being the fastest to Hamilton being the fastest (and in the future being fastest in a race, or "many circles" as the translation put it) to Vettel being the fastest.

And if Ricciardo is on point he might change his mind once again. (or if Vettel has a terrible season performance wise)
