I still say the driver should get the replica....at least in my case.

Stupid Lewis.... Two more titles and you can take Ron´s baby :)

I´d take that car over any trophy in the world.

In 1975 claiming that his mouting collection of "useless" trophies was clutering up his home in Austria, Niki Lauda gave them to the local garage in exchange of free car washes. He retains just one "useful" trophy as paperweight.

At least I guess the trophies he won with McLaren are still at Woking...

Lewis will never get this, McLaren have every trophy the team ever won.

That said, I do hate that McLaren want to keep drivers trophies – the race events give out constructors trophies for a reason.

I understand Lewis wanting the trophies for himself, but I think teams are justified in keeping them. A driver is a single cog in the machine that is a modern F1 team. Ok they are right at the sharp end, but without hundreds of people who get significantly less income, rewards and recognition working at the team they would never have the opportunity to win a trophy. The team, in my opinnion, is bigger and more important than the driver. What a motivator it must be to walk into work at the MTC or any other successfull team to be greeted with a dazzling array of the teams achievements.

It's not just McLaren. This is the way every F1 team works and most race teams in general.

The trophies belong to those who pay the bills. Ain't that right, strad?

It's a non issue. As I've already asked one of the companies that makes the F1 trophies, they said they can make 2 identical, so why does it matter which one goes home and which one stays in the factory. In fact, he actually said "not many people ask for a copy". It's like printing 2 certificates - they're exactly the same. Just make 2 and hand the driver one.

Solved.

Maybe Lewis should concentrate more on racing and do less moaning. He is so selfish it's unreal. He loves the team when he wins, moans about them when they loose. So much for "win together loose together". Worst thing he did was sack his Dad as manager. Since then he's gone downhill and is more bothered about rapping with p-diddy and his "groupies" in the "hood".

If I was Ron Dennis I would show him the door, and ask him to close on his way out. Win as a team, loose as a team. Key word... team! If he wants to see his trophies then go along to the McLaren Technology Centre and have a gaze.

One important note... Mikka had all his replicas distroyed in a house fire after his trophy cabinit caught fire and burned his house to the ground. Had McLaren not had the originals, an important part of motorsport history would have bitten the dust.

Also not even Senna got his trophies!

I'm loathe to derail this thread off topic, but I can't help but ask if we have been watching the same 2012 season...

I'm not being funny, or disrespectful but Lewis is in the headlines more for his "off track antics" more than his on track. He should shut up moaning and stop washing his dirty laundry in the public domain. Why did we want to know he wants to keep his trophies? He is either looking for an excuse to leave or just another excuse to have a dig at the team.

Hmm. Seems like an insignificant request compared to asking for something like no. 1 status like many drivers do. But if for you this means he's not being a team player, then...ok.

Yet of course he knows that this has been a sticking point for Dennis for forever, so there's more to it than just the trophies. It could just be a negotiating tactic; or perhaps he wants a win against his boss. My understanding is that Hamilton and Dennis aren't the best of buds.

Great idea, blame Lewis, and not the media?????? He won the race, he should keep the trophy. Does the Jamaican government keep Bolts gold medals?? Does Murdock have Wiggins yellow jersey?

is it really that big of a deal all of my trophies are in boxes in the attic except the ones that are two big to fit.

I could see maybe a special like your first win ect. But to be honest they just take up space.
