Is this a precursor to Whitmarsh stepping down at McLaren?

I think there is more to it than just "making way for fresh blood". What does anybody else think?

Almost certainly them realising that they don't want to be bound by the rules of FOTA if RBR and Ferrari aren't going to be.

He's not really stepping down, he just not doing another term. Giving the other teams a chance to be more influencial. I think it is a wise move.
