It's funny because most of them are above 100%. Of course, not all drivers can be above 100%. Disregarding Bottas and his lucky(or not) qualifying, Massa and the Mercedes drivers give away all the points to the rest.
It's probably a result of the Mercedes – if 2 cars go backwards many places consistently in most races, then most drivers on the grid will gain slightly (2 places on average).

looking for silverstone, Hamilton has topped the qualiy championship since then.

I tried to do it myself, but it turns out that it is actually a lot of work #-o .

Not sure what you mean by avi. I have a guess, but I'll wait for clarification.

Re: 2013 qualifying championship

Post

Thanks for adding Silverstone. The avitar is sadly unrelated to motorsport. I'm a metallurgist and data nerd. When I was working on my dissertation, I used a thermocouple and "standard cup of room-temperature" water in my spare time to track the energy output of my fireplace as a function of time (and normalized by pounds of firewood added, and integrated etc. in other graphs). The avitar image is one of my output graphs from the project. Averaging water temperature at each time step over many fires, I produced an average heat generation curve (the midpoint graph in my avitar). Fires that averaged instantaneously hotter than the average were colored "hotter" on Matlab colormap "jet," those that ran cooler were colored cooler. (Edit: forgot until I'd posted and reseen the avitar that these color curves are based on the +/- fractions of a standard deviation from the "average" fire.. apologies).

It made for a pretty graph.

I have since used the same simple algorithm to analyze welding heat input and automated brazing cycles at my actual paying job, so it was not a complete waste of time.

Oh dear I forgot about this! I do apologise folks.

Beelsebob - thanks for doing up the Silverstone numbers. I could do up the numbers again starting from the next round, unless you want the job, that is

Monza baby! Vettel passes Hamilton in the qualifying standings, thanks to his pole vs Hamilton's quali non-score

Vettel – 219 (222) – 101.4%
Hamilton – 218 (131) – 60.1%
Rosberg – 165 (104) – 63.0%
Webber – 125 (130) – 104.0%
Alonso – 109 (169) – 155.0%
Raikkonen – 84 (134) – 159.5%
Massa – 81 (79) – 97.5%
Grosjean – 55 (57) – 103.6%
Ricciardo – 35 (18) – 51.4%
Button – 25 (48) – 192.0%
Sutil – 22 (25) – 113.6%
di Resta – 19 (36) – 189.5%
Hulkenberg – 17 (17) – 100.0%
Bottas - 15 (0) - 0.0%
Perez – 15 (18) – 120.0%
Vergne – 8 (13) - 162.5%
Maldonado - 0 (1)

If you were to order this chart in terms of conversion rate rather than in qualifying standings, then:

Maldonado - 0 (1) - infinity %
Button – 25 (48) – 192.0%
di Resta – 19 (36) – 189.5%
Vergne – 8 (13) - 162.5%
Raikkonen – 84 (134) – 159.5%
Alonso – 109 (169) – 155.0%
Perez – 15 (18) – 120.0%
Sutil – 22 (25) – 113.6%
Webber – 125 (130) – 104.0%
Grosjean – 55 (57) – 103.6%
Vettel – 219 (222) – 101.4%
Hulkenberg – 17 (17) – 100.0%
Massa – 81 (79) – 97.5%
Rosberg – 165 (104) – 63.0%
Hamilton – 218 (131) – 60.1%
Ricciardo – 35 (18) – 51.4%
Bottas - 15 (0) - 0.0%

Obviously, Maldonado is the world's best driver, and Hulkenberg is perfectly average
