Nope, no double points whatsoever - the idea has been killed. Sorry for the misleading translation...

I don't think it is ment that way. The only proposal that was on the table was if the double points would be extended to the last 3 races. This has been killed. The motion of double points at the last race, has not (and AFAIK was never in serious discussion as teams seem happy enough to go through with it).

So, as I understand as well, it's still double points for the last race.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

The AMUS link (from the ticker) explictly said double points in the last race only.

The drivers dont like it, the teams dont like it, 87% of the fans dont like it...

Absolutely stupid that the genuine Formula 1 people have to get screwed over just so Bernie can win over fickle fans that will turn their back on the sport at a moments notice.

1. It's not about fans

2. Funny how American track owner/administrator(?) is surprised they scheduled F1 alongside Nascar race when brainpower behind it all invents double points. F1 - where no norms apply, this one's more visible but stranger things happen every day and "genuine Formula 1 people" don't care as long as their teams or drivers benefit.

3. Teams could have blocked changes but they didn't. Red Bull said they didn't like it openly (then maybe later changed their mind ;-)) but I don't recall anyone else doing that. It was OK because it was supposedly against RB, Wolff was surprised it was such a big deal, it was rather normal to him. They did block three last races double points, didn't they?

I'd say it's not about the *hardcore* fans. People like us who follow preseason testing and chat on message boards are going to watch the last race even if the championship is not even close to being contested, like last year. We'll watch regardless, so there's no point in considering our opinion.

It's about the casual fans. They are the ones who will be more likely to watch if the championship is on the line. More casual fans -> higher ratings -> more money for everyone.

what are the chance of this double point system; which was meant to prevent RBR from winning another WCC, ending up helping them to win it at the end of the season? :)

It was meant to prevent an early win for anyone, and a cynic might say that Mr E's best friends at RBR stood to obviously gain from it if you look at 09 or their comments on not developing the RB10 as far back as last year.

So it's likely working as intended.

Some of us made that point when the idea of double points was first suggested by Bernie.

What will be funny will be watching all of the nut-job conspiracy theories coming out if it RBR does win on the doube points basis. I can see the argument already - Bernie was told by RBR/Renault that they were going to struggle at the start of the season so Bernie brings in double points to help them out. Then when it's clear that RBR/Renault are really struggling, he tries to implement double points for last three races. You heard it here first!
