Formula 1 'OPEN CLASS'

Post

Image

we already see Open Class on motogp ..... small teams were able to compete with factory teams.... even ducati decided to join the club

considering the lower budget & the capability of Marussia to compete with the top five, they can't even fight with middle teams .....is it Reasonable to make an Open Class on F1 GP ?

Let say marussia, they will be allowed bringing more fuel with higher fuel flow limitation ( e.g. 110kg/hr ), more tire allocation ...etc
............!!!!

Wasn't a roughly similar idea proposed by dear old max mosley in 2009? Teams that used a budget cap of 40m would have more technical freedom. It ended with the boot for Mosley.

I have respect for motogp. Clearly a completely different ethos there. It's thinking much more long term and decisions aren't as much blocked as they are in formula 1.

Half the riders fell off their bikes. Otherwise 6 or 7 guys would have been within 2 seconds at the finish line.

True, but they use Factory Bikes not open class bikes.

The factory vs open debate is a bit of a farce.

Bautista, Smith, Bradl and Espargaro are factory only in name, they do get a lot of factory parts but it obviously isn't the full kit.

The three factory manufactures are still Ducati, Honda and Yamaha, just like last year, except that Ducati have dropped down a class so they can get better performance but don't let that fool you, they are still factory in reality.

So, no I don't like the idea of an open class in F1, but I am a bit fed up with the teams lower down the pecking order still being so much slower per lap which is predominantly do to not having enough budget. I would like to see something done but don't know what.

The problem is the top teams are so far into the "diminishing returns" scenario that the lower teams have to spend an awful lot to close the gap.

MotoGP had to do that because in some races there was more points paying positions than starters on the grid! Qatar is also one of the most fuel dependant tracks on the calender, the gap should increase when they hit the other tracks :)

That's surely what the budget cap was all about, no? Allow the capped teams to have more design freedom, whilst slowly restricting the uncapped rules to the point of being pointless?
