If that is a real image and not photoshopped then Mercedes is taking the p%&*. They mentioned there was another alternative and perhaps what we are seeing is Mercedes trying to steer the F.I.A to the more complex alternative.

I imagine they've went straight for the exhaust design that they think will be loudest to determine how much louder they can make the car so then they can make a compromise between a ugly loud exhaust and a nice but quiet exhaust, surely we won't see the Merc using this at a race weekend.
