With all the data the team had, they managed to make a poor decision which cost Hamilton the race. The driver does not decide strategy and the second you allow the driver to determine the strategy is the second you lost complete control of the situation. How you can blame the driver for poor strategy calls is beyond me.
ok maybe it is beyond you, but why do you think lewis had an opinion that he would be in danger of losing the win if people behind him were put on fresh tyres and then a minute later admitting that the people in front of him were in no danger of losing the win when he had fresh tyres

they made a decision to leave him out, lewis made the recommendation twice to bring him in (he hadnt yet had his realisation that drivers still wouldnt be able to pass with a tyre advantage, that epiphany is still a minute away) so if they kept him out and lewis was originally correct then he would be a major cry baby for about 2 weeks

if the two cars behind you were going to have fresh tyres and going to have been allowed to close right up surely it doesn't take an einstein to work out that the logical thing to do is to pit as well ?
just as logical as not stopping if the cars behing you hadn't
pity mercedes didn't tell hamilton that he had the wrong impression and that the cars behind him hadn't stopped ...he would have ignored them when they called him in !

it also doesnt take einstein to understand that both drivers behind him couldnt possibly both pit

rosberg wouldnt pit because if he did then vettel wouldnt follow him in, worst case scenario for lewis would be that he had a rear guard on old tyres and a fresh tyre in 3rd, exactly the situation that he thought would end his race as soon as he came out of the pits in that 3rd place

the only way that both guys would get fresh tyres would be if vettel pitted before the safety car came out (exactly the same Lewis idiot idea from last year that this thread is based on), and then rosberg responded on the first lap under the safety car

so actually lewis is so dumb that he thinks others have his dumb ideas and is working on that basis

Lewis is also the only driver that needs constant coaching during a race. Drivers like alonso, Vettel and ricciardo figure it out as the race unfolds.

lol he still doesnt understand anything, hopefully someone does some sort of demonstration in the garage after the race because it is pretty simple

my recommendation is that someone takes 20 full steps to show the lead you get under full race conditions pitstop, then the next person taking 20 half steps to show how the pitstop is made in safety car conditions then explain why the one guy is in front by so much

Mr. Wolff has egg on his face (embarrassed because of mistake)
Mercedes' Achilles heel seems to be not having an effective chain of command.
