I'd go Alonso Hamilton. that pairing in McLaren was too good... it was really bad. what a team that year. massive domination!

Vettel and Webber.

Youth and experience, with just the right amount of performance differential to avoid confrontation of the level of Prost and Senna or Hamilton and Alonso; but not so disparate as to be boring and blatantly obvious, as in Barrichello and Schumacher.

Guys guys, hold on... Schumacher and Barrichello, maybe not the best looking one, but damn they were good.

How 'bout Jack Brabham & Denny Hulme..
& no prima donna petulant school-girl carrying-on, or even - team orders - with those 2 no bullshit blokes,
but winning consecutive F1 championships in an under-powered virtually self-built car..

( & my earliest conscious memory of an F1 race, when Denny won Monaco & Lorenzo Bandini died trying..)
"Well, we knocked the bastard off!"

Ed Hilary on being 1st to top Mt Everest,
(& 1st to do a surface traverse across Antarctica,
in good Kiwi style - riding a Massey Ferguson farm
tractor - with a few extemporised mod's to hack the task).

Berger and Senna.

Berger was possibly the best (non French) competition that Senna had at McLaren.

How are we quantifying best?

Most entertaining for the fans?
Most successful?
Best working relationship?

I thought this one was a damn good pairing as far as quality driving and respect:

I'm not sure I could say they were the best but the fact that Stewart said Cevert could have beaten him several times in 1973 yet settled for second while Jackie won has to count for something.

Depends on the definition of best i suppose but best as in the best drivers together i´d say Senna/Prost and Hamilton/Alonso.
Or any other era where two guys who are considered the best at what they do gets acquired by one team.

Absolutely this. The master and his apprentice.
