Fans and outside designers aren't binded to sponsorship demands and contracts. The liveries are a bueraucratic decision in I'd say 80%...the rest is just up to the team to decide which shade of color to choose.
Another issue is that you want to make sure that the paint job looks the same in every occasion. Some colors are more susceptible to look different under different lights, or even photographs in general.

They didn't have that long red stripe over the entire front of the car. At least from this perspective it looks kind of like Hamilton's GP2 car :p

Sauber set for blue and yellow livery - report

Sauber looks set to swap its white and grey livery for prominent blue and yellow for the 2015 season.

That is the claim of the Portuguese-language publication Universo, claiming the Swiss team's colour choice is in deference to new driver Felipe Nasr's major backer Banco do Brasil.

Last year, 22-year-old rookie Brazilian and former Williams reserve Nasr finished the GP2 season in third place with the striking blue and yellow Banco do Brasil-branded Carlin car.

Universo also reported a tale of mere survival for Sauber over the winter, having momentarily stopped developing the new C34 car due to running out of funds.

In 2015, Nasr's teammate will be the similarly well-backed Marcus Ericsson, who switches from the ailing backmarker Caterham.

The publication said the delayed development, with Sauber only receiving its new 2015 engines from Ferrari on Saturday, could mean the team has to sit out the first winter test at Jerez.

Sauber has also not announced a launch date for the C34, but when contacted, the Hinwil based team told Universo that it is "working to have the car ready for the first test in Jerez".

As for the money issue, Sauber insisted the team "does not discuss financial matters in public".

Swede Ericsson, meanwhile, was quoted by Speed Week: "The team had a disappointing 2014, no doubt, but everyone is eager to fight back and show everyone that they can do a good job."

Well, Sauber has had blue cars (with some yellow, due to the RB sponsorship) for most of their history, so it shouldn't look too out of place :)

I like it. I'm dying for RBR to change things up on their livery....
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

That's why I would like F1 to present more personal liveries for each drivers, because we often don't see any differences between drivers. The personal choice of number is a first step. Now a personal livery would be the next step. Personal liveries would also bring out each personality on the grid.

I would say it is a bad idea from a teams perspective.

I always preferred F1 style of having 2 cars with same livery as opposed to NASCAR and Indycar series which makes it difficult to follow the team.

I sure do not like a team using one livery for a decade which is common in F1 as a branding exercise but seems to be the way they like it.

As a mid ground I sure would like to see the 2 cars of a team with different air box livery designs as an extension to the drivers helmet and personal sponsors.

I would at least like to see what Sauber did in late 90s and early 2000s: Both cars running with same livery (as per rules) but with different colored headrest and mirrors (one driver with red and one with yellow)

Ferrari did the same thing with the yellow squares on the wings.
