I've never heard strides being used as slang for pants. Is this a very old slang term?

I once went into a bar in Australia where it said "no thongs". I thought that it would be a good job for somebody checking all that underwear only to learn that "things" are an Australian name for "flip-flops". Let's hope that McLaren make it to the first race fully clothed and with a car that performs well. Maybe it will be painted nicely too!
