So, how do you explain the very similar performances of those two mercs, considering their torque curves are so different...?

Now, I know correlation doesn't always mean causation, but I can assure you it does in this case; more power DOES = higher performance, no matter how that power is derived or whether it is just a "mathematical construct".

To be honest I'm happy to accept Power IS just a "mathematical construct"... One which makes comparing engine performance really easy....!

Those two M-Bs are fraternal twins..
& they have been carefully designed - to provide a closely matched outright performance - for sales brochure purposes..

Never-the-less, the SI unit still defeats the CI machine by dint of powerband/gearing superiority..

Driving preference-wise ( I own/operate a petrol DOHC 4V M-B), it is up to the buyer..
