"Exciting F1" Seasons + TOP 5 of the Last Ten Years

Post

Fans have been expressing a lot of dissatisfaction with their overall assessment of F1 for numerous reasons. Often criticisms concern specific issues which currently make F1 "less than ideal" for some fans and there is no end of debate and suggestions on how to make F1 racing more entertaining. Even though the F1 package might not be perfect, I am convinced that more often than not, F1 usually delivers an exciting seasons worth of racing thrills right down to a cliff-hanger!

Without trying to influence the result, can I ask members to select which of the last ten seasons of F1 they found to be "Exciting" or "Entertaining". By "Exciting" I mean a season that has held your attention throughout and one which, on reflection, you could exhale and say "now that was fun"! Even if a your favourite driver or team did not prevail that year, or issues were less than ideal, please try to be fair and honest.

Also Please list your TOP FIVE seasons in a post and indicate the TOTAL number of F1 seasons you voted "Exciting".

**In listing TOP 5, if you cannot separate them, put them in the same line, otherwise use five lines. If you cannot list up to five, use N/A.**

My Top Five Exciting Seasons:
2007,2006
2008,2012
2014

Total seasons voted: 8/10.

2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012.

2005 decided quite early, there were ups and downs but very defined ups and downs, in the beggining only a Renault could win, after that only Mclaren could win and the only question was will they a have a weekend without problems.

2009 Okish, in the beggining only a BGP could win, but the rest of the field was mixed, by the end RBR were strong favorites but there was some variation according on tracks.

2011 extremely boring, nothing to say.

2013 in the beggining it looked like more 2012 goodness, only this time Vettel was already looking solid at midpoint, and after that...

2014 people have been trying to sell this crap, but frankly i don't see it, Bahrain, Spa and Hungary were exceptions to the boredom.
At least in 2011 the cars were a pleasure to watch going around the track, yuck.

For us Rosberg and Hamilton supporters 2014 was a roller coaster.

Mostly because of reliability, on track the racing was lackluster imo.

Exiting seasons for me: 2007,2010,2011,2012 (didn't see the 2008 season!)

I think Brasil 2012 is the race i've re-watched the most times.
2011 I think is under rated - I think it still offered great racing. The Red Bull's were fast but so was the Mclaren and occasionally Ferrari. Also we had some amazing overtakes, Vettel on Alonso at Monza etc. I think somehow the racing was more pure than it is now.

Yeah, for the rest of us, the outcome was never even remotely in doubt.

2010 was a real thriller.

I was rooting for Alonso and Webber, and got nothing. But man, that was one of the best seasons ever.

It was also one of the few season were four drivers still had a shot at the title in the final race.

I tried to make something that is typically subjective to be objective, and rated all 10 seasons based on 3 qualities.

COMPETITIVENESS: how much variety is there within the pecking order? How many different cars do we see winning races? Reaching the podium?

QUALITY OF RACES: how good was the racing, typically? How many good races were there?

WDC BATTLE: how compelling was the WDC fight?

Image

This would rate them as follows:

1. 2012
2. 2010
3. 2008
4. 2006
5. 2014
6. 2009
7. 2007
8. 2005
9. 2011
10. 2013

If this poll had been about best season of this century, then 2002 would have edged 2013 as the worst, whereas 2003 would have been a serious contender for the best.

As a guy who watched Rosberg struggle in mediocre cars for 7-8 years, I could not agree more! =D>

Well, you can say that now in hindsight, but I remember how after Germany, the bookies were split 50:50 on the WDC odds, and an online poll on one F1 site had gathered several hundred votes, and Lewis was winning by something like 58%, so it was not as clear cut back then.

Anyway, 2014 showed that you can have an exciting season even with a dominant car.

2014 was one of the best battles between two drivers in a dominating team.

I still think 2007/2008 were very special, because every weekend it was a battle between two of the greatest teams in F1 history.

2003 was a battle between the 3 greatest teams of F1 history! :P

It was the only season ever - of which I am aware of - where Ferrari, McLaren and Williams were ALL very strong contenders for the championship throughout the entire season.

1999 was also an absolute classic.
