How do you beach your car in the pits while you're dominating a race, was that McLaren sabotaging Hamilton? Maybe they just cracked under pressure, it's not a conspiracy, all the actors in that scenario just cracked, they couldn't be professional, end result being what it was. It's no more conspiracy Hamilton rear-ending Raikkonen in Canada 08. Or Button ramming Hamilton into the wall in Canada 11, and coming from dead last to win. People tend to crack under pressure, those who manage it best tend to come out on top.

Surely Fernando should be pushing for a contract extension? Getting paid so much money, and likely to become increasingly competitive, possibly very competitive, in 2017/2018/2019.

Facts Only wrote:Yeah O.k, it's a fact then, Alonso was deliberately sabotaged by McLaren, man never went to the moon and 911 was an inside job. Carry on arguing the point to death I'll nod politely and just get on with working and socialising with people who were there and know what actually happened. It's easier to just let you have the last word.
This... I wish I could be a bit more like this. =D>

Alonso ruled out of the Bahrain GP, Vandoorne to deputise.

Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

'Fernando Alonso should retire', says Sky Sports F1's Johnny Herbert.

Completely disagree that Alonso should retire. With a sniff of victory the champion will again rise. He still has 2-3 years. With Honda on an upswing and new rules next year, what on earth would mclaren want with Button and a rookie. With any choice between Alonso and Button, I would take Alonso every day of the week. Time for Button to retire. We need a new thread.

2-3 years based on what? And why should Button retire but not Alonso?

I think Herberts view holds some merit. Alonso is making more mistakes than he didn't used to do. He did last year, and he did at Melbourne. I disagree with Herberts view about pace though. We haven't seen enough races and qualifying sessions so far this year to judge pace. Last year the car was so unreliable, we cannot judge the drivers based on that season.

Wow, Sky really showed it's bullshittery today. Their reporting has been going downhill for the last two seasons, but this one takes the cake and we are not even two full races into it. Ted, for most of the time, has no idea what he is talking about, Crofty ... I have no words, and then Herbert comes out with some cr** like this.

And I am not even that big of a fan of Alonso, Kimi all the way, but you have got to give credit where credit is due.

The man is a machine on sundays and he always gives his best. Even with not the best of a car, or arguably even second best, he was always there at the last race to fight for the championship. And when you read something like this:

http://www.skysports.com/f1/news/24184/ ... ny-herbert

It just saddens you. Well, at first it saddens you, but then you give it a bit of a thought, and then you remember "Oh yea, It's Sky" and you really aren't that surprised anymore.

I could probably contradict everything that Herbert said, (about Alonsos lack of hunger for being the best of the best, loosing his reflex speed........), but it is this, that kinda rocked my boat:

"He's commented that he'd be happy to leave F1 with two world championships - that is a man who has not just given up the chance of winning another, but that effectively is giving up on racing."

That is so way out of context, that I can write elephant, yellow, circle, my dogs name is Indy, but he is actually a cat, and it makes just as much sense.

Herbert was amazed that Alonso did not fight harder to drive in Bahrain after the doctors declared him unfit.

"He doesn't like these new cars which is another reason for him to quit," the Sky Sports F1 pundit said.
"He had the incident in Barcelona and he didn't go racing, but when a driver has an accident usually they want to get back in the car - when I crashed I told everyone I wanted to get back in the car. But even with his crash in Australia we still didn't get that."

Alonso came to Bahrain, hoping he will pass the medical examinations. He did not.

He could hold his breath until his face turned a shade of bluish-purple, while he stood on one leg, jumping in a circle and then started playing Heart Of Gold by Neil Young on the harmonica, and he still wouldn't be allowed to race.

You don't pass the physical, you don't get to race. Period Ende Finito.

That's how it is today.

But, not to be too harsh on Johnny, he probably just blurted some stuff out, without thinking, which he rarely does lately...

Oh, and my cats name really is Indy. He says Hi!

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️
