Installation laps, still over an hour to put some laps on the board.

Re: Shark fins and T-wings to be banned on safety grounds?

F1T wrote:Shark fins and T-wings to be banned on safety grounds? - Development blog

Following the launch of the first few cars in launch week, voices were raised that shark fins, engine cover sails, or whatever they would need to be called, should be banned from Formula One. F1 teams themselves didn't agree however, as Red Bull's attempts to get them banned last summer failed, most likely because some teams were already happily exploring the aerodynamic possibilities of such engine cover extensions.
It's only testing, just let the teams them run them and at the end of the test, look at all the facts and then make a decision.
besides who doesn't like shark week

Most unfortunate to see the McLaren struggling to set some time here today.

So, business as usual? over 100 laps on opening day for Mercedes and just 4 for McLaren.

Is it already safe to say that not much has changed, even with radical formula changes?

Lets not turn this topic into a discussing about sandbagging. No team is going to show their hand. Teams run different fuel loads, tyres and engine modes, because ultimate performance is not their goal. You can call it sandbagging or the teams just minding their business.
Irvine:"If you don't have a good car you can't win it, unless you are Michael or Senna. Lots of guys won in Adrian Newey's cars, big deal. Adrian is the real genius out there, there is Senna, there is Michael and there is Newey. They were the three great talents."

That looks to be reasonable. I was wondering if they now ran the PU in a detuned state/lower mode. But that is probably not the case else the delta would be a lot higher.

Its too early to judge it but it seems that everything is much more similar than some people have expected. A Little bit underwhelming if you ask me.

7 laps for Alonso an a 1:25:586. At least he is doing something!

Where is the hysteria surrounding this? Or is that reserved for Mclaren Honda??
We sort of know if the RB13 runs it is likely to be on pace. McLaren has not showed anything encouraging for the last couple of years. McLaren seem to struggle every winter, therefore people are on their backs a bit. From my perspective both Red Bull and McLaren need a good winter. Because, Ferrari and Mercedes are further in their respective testing itinerary. We seen that Mercedes isn't in the business of giving away their advantage once they created one.
This. I'd also say that at least Renault is gathering data on how their engine is running due to the two other teams running it. Meaning, if there was some fault on all the Renault PU, all the teams would be having problems. Since Honda is only running one car, every issue and lack of running is exaggerated. Same applies to Mercedes, if any of the teams running their engine developed any problems. They'd know. So they can mainly focus on testing different aero components, shark fin, no shark fin etc while also studying tires and possibly different engine maps. It's only day 1, but with testing as restricted as it is, every running time is important.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II
