Was this guy a driver?

Post

I work with a Frenchman named Roger Cohen and he says he drove F1 for both Ferrari and Porsche back in the late '50s and '60s. But I cannot find his name attached to any of those teams in that era.

Any of you ever heard of him?

Thanks in advance--

Franco

I couldn't find his name in any "all F1 drivers ever" list. Also, drivers who drove in F1 in late '50s and '60s usualy don't work anymore

Honnestly the name doesn't ring a bell. I've found an article in french mentioning a driver named Roger Cohen in the 60's, but there's no mention to Ferrari or Porsche:

http://www.marcadier.com/histoire.htm

The only thing said about him:
L'auto fut ensuite munie d'une mécanique Renault 8 Gordini et cette voiture signa, en formule libre, quelques beaux résultats aux mains de Roger Cohen , le pilote attitré de la marque. Il remporta même des victoires au classement général, devant des monoplaces de Formule 3 !
In english it says: The car was then fitted with a Renault 8 Gordini engine, and it achieved some nice results in "formula (free?) libre", in the hands of Roger Cohen, the titular pilot of the manufacturer. He even won some races, ahed of some Formula 3 cars!

Note: the car in question is the ’Fournier-Marcadier'

Maybe he drove using a different name? That was usual, back then...

Well, I just reread the F1/F2 section of "The Porsche Book", written in 1978 by Jurgen Barth, whose father Edgar was involved heavily with that classification of Porsche racing cars. There is no mention of Roger Cohen, in this typically German, exhaustively detailed book.

Porsche's involvement in F1 was very short lived in 1961-2, and all the drivers associated with the effort are well known, except for a Dutch driver, Godin de Beaufort.

A friend of mine has a Fournier apparently driven by Roger Cohen. Franco, do you have contact info for Cohen?
