Trulli Train hurts teammate

Post

Toyota's senior management were left frustrated by the points the team lost at last weekend's Japanese Grand Prix after Jarno Trulli ignored radio calls to move over for teammate Ralf Schumacher, this week's Autosport reveals.

The Japanese car manufacturer had secured the second row of the grid at Suzuka and looked set for one of their most competitive showings of the season.

But their afternoon was hurt when Trulli lost a lot of time after his second stop with tyre graining - which compromised the pace of the faster Schumacher, who was stuck behind him and could not find a way past. The pair duly finished sixth and seventh.

The team believe, however, that Schumacher could have beaten both Jenson Button in fourth and Kimi Raikkonen in fifth if he had been let through immediately. And those lost points have left senior team members angry, especially because Trulli ignored three calls on the radio to move over.

The source told Autosport: "It was a very difficult situation for us because, in the later stages of the race, Ralf was clearly the faster driver and definitely had the pace to finish fourth. But Jarno just wouldn't pull over. It has definitely cost us points."

Trulli said after the race that his pace was slow because of tyre issues, but that the team should have been happy for both cars to finish in the points.

"I had several problems and struggled with my last set of tyres - particularly for the first 10 laps," he explained. "The most important thing is that we both scored points."
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

Toyota is crying b/c their $20 million investment into Ralf Schumacher never has, didn't, and never will pay off. Having their golden-boy lose to Jarno on home turf just rubbed salt into the wound.

If RS had the talent that Toyota is paying for, he would have been able to pass Jarno's suffering car easily.

For Toyota to say that Ralf could have caught Button & Raikkonen is absurd. Ralf couldn't pass Jarno with tyre problems. And to even think that Ralf had a chance of passing both Kimi and Jenson- what are they thinking at Toyota? Even if both Kimi & Jenson had car problems, Ralf would somehow lose a nose cone and score outside the points.

Yup, they were team orders.
It's funny, BMW turned their drivers loose to race each other, while Ralf showed once again why he's the highest paid underperformer in F1. Maybe he should have grown some balls and tried a pass.

Toyota is competition and it's drivers show their potential. I thought the same but this year changed my opinion greatly.
There is a place for those who dare to dream
