mid-season helmet updates

Post

i have noticed that several drivers have made some changes to thier helmets in the past couple races....

Jarno Trulli - added neon orange pinstripes
[IMG:150:115]http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/2074 ... -07.th.jpg[/img]
Rubens Barrichello - is now a smoked semi-metalic
[IMG:150:115]http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/2598 ... 9-4.th.jpg[/img]
Liuzzi - same as Rubens' but with more metalic than smoke and gold pinstripes
[IMG:150:115]http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/1107 ... in0.th.jpg[/img]
Nick Heidfeld - all dark with red trim and metalic gold pinstriping
[IMG:150:115]http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/3298 ... 9-4.th.jpg[/img]

i have to say, i really like Nick's new design...compare to the previous one:

Actually Rubens and Nick's helmets are not new designs. But a new coating on the helmet that changes shade. As the outside temperature decreases, they helmets become darker to trap more heat and stay at an appropriate temp. When it is warmer they stay their normal paint schemes. The same theory as wearing a white T-shirt on a hot day to stay cool.

so kinda like those reflex lenses on sunglasses then? thats cool.....but the gold is still new :P it was silver stripes before

i can see one problem with that coating though....if all the drivers start using it we will have a whole field of near-black helmets going around the track in the cold......

No problem at all. Seeing how next year customer chassis will be allowed as well. So....... clone helmets and clone chassis. F1 at its best, wouldn't you say?

BTW, Heidfelds helmet is better in the darker shade, instead of the previouse blue.

Are these the only drivers who have updated their helmet designs?

First time Barrichello used this new helmet, there was a newsarticle about it online! When it's under 27° or something like that...his helmet is black, when it's above that it takes the shape of his normal colours. He used it the first time at Monaco

And same with Nick's helmet. On these 2 pics is the SAME helmet but different temperatures (introduced in Malaysian GP)

It's also interesting to note Trulli now wears a Bell helmet and not the Spacro he's been campaining for a few years. Also Liuzzi wears a Bell rather than the Arai of last year.

Are you sure? Cause on the one that's darker he has that "Bridgestone" sticker, which you cant see in the lighter version. Does that show up too with the difference in temp. or are they different versions of the same helmet?

What abnout their teammates? I think it's rediculously inefficient to have 2 different helmet shapes for same car (in terms of aero of course).
We have Kimi's move from Arai to Schuberth as an example.

the gold is still new......anyway, i like it dark.....he should make it be like that permanently.....theres too many bright neon metalic helmets these days, a dark one would be nice...

or, atleast balance colour with black...
