Having slated the Bernie's solution, what alternative would I propose? Well the problem that Bernie is trying to address is that with the current points system and Max's push for endurance components, the teams and championship winning drivers have focused on reliability.

There are two very simple solutions to this, both of which used to be part of the F1. Only count a drivers best results, instead of all of them, and only require components to last a single race. With this combination reliability will become less of a concern if, for example, a team could suffer two or three DNF's without penalty. Likewise drivers would be more likely to push for the highest places they could achieve if it did not matter if they broke the car or crashed out a couple of times each year.

No gimmicks or artificial overtaking added in to the racing, just a readjustment of the rules to turn F1 back into a sprint rather than an endurance race.

If the cars are as close together as they were last year, this is going to be fun! But 7 points between first and second is quite a lot. If one of the main teams has a far better car, then the championship is practically decided.

It may become another 1998 or 2002...

Myself, I would go with 20, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1. But perhaps that's too simple for F1.

It is not as simple as that. One would have to unfreeze engines as well and would loose all elements of cost control that are currently working. I'm trying to imagine what had happened if the GPMA had won in 2005 and we had headed with the 2005 or higher cost level into the 2008/2009 crisis. F1 may have been wiped out.

Actually it is reported that in the newest ÈconcordeÈ all teams who complete every round are awarded 10Mil.. with points deciding how the rest of the TV money will be divided.

I believe I was misunderstood. At the end of the season Bernie has a nice pile of money he doles out to teams. If you did not score any points, no money. But if you just scored one point, then you are eligible for payment. That's why we would see the rare event when a back-runner would capture one point, and the team was celebrating like Carnival. That's because with that one point, a lot of money will come their way.
