Man, stop trying to defend the undefendable. USF1 have applied to the FIA for a repieve so they can start their season in Europe. As good as it is trying to get an American team on the grid, you should surely question the selection process of a team with absolutely no history in a country not set up for F1 manufacture or testing. OK, in the bigger picture it is a good thing, and perhaps should be viewed in isolation to the others (perhaps).

I was under the impression that if a team didn't make it to the first GP then the reserve teams would be called up?

And as for Campos, I can't see Bernie being overjoyed that someone is making a quick buck out of selling a grid-slot.

But hey, what do I know. Obviously 2 outfits who have shown world class standards in rallying and Indy have no place on our beloved grid.

If USF1 want to delay their racing start they must at least attend and try to qualify for the fly away rounds or they will be in trouble like Arrows was in 2002.

I hope they all succeed and the new teams deliver a car to the grid. I am not an optimist and so without seeing them with cars ready to roll by the end of this month I would have to imagine that they are going to struggle in a bad way - think Forti/Lola Mastercard style. That is even if they do deliver a car to the grid in time.

I thikn the budget restrictions have nothing to do with it. The 4 new teams knew that they were going to be doing it cheap when they tendered for the slots. They did not say to the FIA that they had 150m to spend...they said they had maybe 40m and that was not guaranteed...as we are now beginning to see.

Ref the due diligence - hmm..makes the selection process look even more contrived as none of the teams, to us forum amateurs, have the resource to compete, or perhaps even attend the races!

USF1 is not asking for a reprieve, they asked for 6 straight line testing days which the FIA has granted. They will be in Bahrain.

Campos is not for sale either. They are talking with Investors and sponsors/ One investotr is a South African but they alo talking to Brasilian companies, South African Companies and other European companies less affected by the global economics.
It is not inconceivable that Campos could sell a stake (and make a buck off the increased share value of his company)but this does not appear to be the intention currently.

IMHO The due diligence comments are wide of the mark.

I suspect only Lotus had the funding in place when the applications were accepted. I suspect USF1 only had underwriting from Chad Hurley, but are hoping for sponsors to provide the cash. They probably all had a line in the budget for "sponsor to be confirmed".

Note that Joe Saward has reported that Virgin aren't funding Manor, but providing a channel for other third parties to find them through the Virgin group.

Oh and even the WCC had no established sponsors for 2010 when the new teams were admitted.

So due diligence would not not be about the full budget, rather it would be about the background of the applicants, and the pre-contract agreements they had in place with key suppliers (ie premises, engine, wind tunnel, etc), and whether the participants had experience in raising the sort of funding required.

Finally, auditing only informs the decision maker about possible risks, but ultimately the decision would be based on broader issues. For example the need to have teams based in USA or Asia.

one has to ask himself what influece the media plays in these circumstances... spreading rumours as facts not in forum context but as a news online service
can create a lot of turbulence and surely does make potential investors at least
a bit hesitate or think twice before passing on the cheque i can imagine...it may also be a tool for some forces to shoot the team owners into the leg to bargain when
taking over..

That needs a reality check. None of the teams would have had decent funding at the time of the application. I wouldn't expect them to get sponsors until shortly before the launch, with others being added as the season goes on. They are also reliant on pay drivers bring sponsorship and they couldn't be signed up until Dec.

Even Brawn with all his experience didn't get a sponsors badge until days before the first race of 09.

How is Campos selling a share in the team any more worrying than Brawn & Renault selling (controlling) shares in their teams for 2010?

Or McLaren selling shares to the Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company a few years back, or Williams recently getting in bed with that Christian Wolff bloke?

On topic, Campos in need of money before the season has begun is obviously a concern, would be regarding any team.

We're back to the normal state of affairs before car manufacturers dominated the sport. We're seeing a nudge closer to the gargiste approach of a bloke with a fast car who will prostitute his design to anyone with cash to fund the construction. Along with wheeler dealer spivs who try to concoct money out of thin air so they can get the loot. Meanwhile drivers chase seats, each other, and girls.

Its quite neat because they are all going round in circles, both figuratively and literally.

you can apply to any entry in any event (whether it be sports or educational) ONLY when you have necessary credentials.....

all my point was FIA must have investigated the applicants at the time of application for 2010 WC entries, i.e., funding too! why FIA allowed only Cosworth quoters an entry is still a question to ask, but why it left other 'possible good' options like Lola or Prodrive or N.Technology, etc. is still a mystery.....
