It's the way Portuguese (and therefore, by extension Brazilian) naming conventions work - people take surnames from both their parents. Helio Castroneves was born Helio Castro Neves, but various journos in the US called him Helio Castro, Helio Neves or Castro Neves so he changed it by deedpoll/whatever it's called in the US or Brazil to Castroneves.
