No they didn't.

:?: Didn't copy? Or didn't close the gap? I think they did both, but the gap was still greater than zero at season's end.

On topic: I think it's a given that the greater the magnitude of rules change, the bigger Newey's advantage. He just seems to be unmatched at "interpreting" new rules. And I see no shame in a designer adapting another designer's ideas.

I´d say the basic layout ideas of the RB6 could not be copied so there was still some gap and
I agree that Alonso was charging very hard and almost fault free.so maybe that gap was a bit bigger then it appeared at times.

I can completely agree with you, Marcush. I also think, that Ferrari didn't manage to close gap to RB, but Alonso's performance in the second part of the season was really spectacular (and I say it as someone who actually don't like him - but I'm not that blind, that I won't notice his skill).

Who gains, who loses ? impossible to predict. The new tires and the aero will be obviously decisive.
All I can say is that teams like Williams, RedBull, Mclaren and Ferrari have already done full scale aero tests on the Pirelli tires in Abu Dhabi. Renault and Mercedes did not... maybe not yet. They concentrated on the rear wing.

I also notice that every time the tires changed, one of the top teams made mistakes and 'lost ground'; Ferrari in 2005. Mclaren in 2006, Renault in 2007... With the mandatory weight distribution, maybe we wont see such thing happen again. But limitation on testing and homologated parts wont help the ones who will do mistakes...

Maybe we will see much larger jumps in performance this year because there are so many new things to get to grips with.

I'd argue 2009 brought more new things. Besides, most of the changes for 2011 are restrictions, and not really areas where they can explore. It would cut off avenues they could explore
