That's a Cosworth 1. The only F1 car ever built by them. And it is indeed a 4WD but this wasn't the only attempt at introducing the concept in F1. (McLaren M9A, Matra MS84, Lotus 56B or 63, BRM P67)

Arrows A2, such a beautiful car, shame it was never that great, loads of innovation on it too.

That the Lotus 79 wasnt named, the first of the Wing cars.

Arrows A2 was also incredible, but just like the Lotus 80 with a similar philosophy, it failed badly.

BMW F1.08!
Beautiful; such a shame they stop developing it so early could have been a title contender due to the reliability and the speed of kubica

The Lotus 79 was not the real first wing car. The real first wing car was this:

The mighty Lotus 49B from 1968.

I am talking ground effects mate ;)

These ground effect cars where named 'wingcars' everywhere, because of the wing shape of the underbody and in some experimental, not working examples the whole car from the sidepod start.
Probably one of the most unsafe inventions ever, through incredibly effective. These cars where incredibly unstable under pitch and yaw and hitting a kerb will give you 95% downforce reduction since the floor wasnt closed off anymore killing the vacuum

I know, just making a play on words with the term. You have to admit the wing on the 49B is quite something! Held by two rods and two shrouds only...

I believe that the Auto Union cars on the 30's were the first mid-engined car to win a Grand Prix.

F1.08 BMW SAUBER

Amazing shape, wings, color scheme, a very clear visual design.

By the way, sometimes I think about peter sauber, how hard is to see the sponsors that started with him now are so high.... Mercedes-Petronas and Red Bull.
