Yes, that's the car. the 5500Lbs quoted is indeed in High DF trim. I'd doubt that would actually be able to reach the 200mph.

I got the numbers from http://www.mulsannescorner.com/aerodata ... he962.html

The Joest Porsche was an GTP car anyways, so top speed wasn't much of an issue.

That seems very high, 3 times more than the 956L but I guess Joest must know what they were talking about.

Here is a very nice page on the 962CK6 with tons of pictures: http://www.speedhunters.com/2013/01/198 ... f-success/

Worth a read!

Agreed, it seems very high, certainly in comparison. however, it does have 10 years of aero development, both factory as well as by teams itself, in it.

The shorter tail, and the twin-tier wing certainly helped in gaining downforce. And closing off the inlet I guess also brings a big enhancement to front downforce.

Comparing the numbers to other, more modern GTP's show that the 5500Lbs still was way behind.

I just love the little details like these

I agree that the car is from 1993, not 1983, but still, it looks very similar. As you said, very different rear wing, modified front section, more refinement on air guidance, cooling and ducting. I also agree that the factory single element rear wing was very rudimentary in its concept and that there is large room for improvement, but that's still a big number.

Although as you also said, other teams were well above that value, which I find really impressive. I doubt that they were able to reach 200mph with their engines tho, even if they were powerful. But impressive indeed.

A similar version, look at that profile, that looks very aggressive, I love it:

The Liqui Moly 962 had a nice headlight design with 1 on each side and a sculptured decal giving it more of a cat look!

I wish I was there:

A lot of emotion for me with this tribute. My favourite car of all time, my favourite track, and I considered Bellof as a future big name in the sport, very nice person.

To bump the thread;

Mike Fuller posted this yesterday, it's a sheet written after testing somewhere in early 1983.
