So are these the old, new or totally new style sidepods? It always made me wonder why Renault sidepod opening are always so much bigger than others. Rear wing looks different to me but I don't pay too much attention to this car.

They probably want to see if the scoops solution works, and it makes more sense to put it first on Raikkonen's car, since he finished every race until now and he can provide a race-long batch of data.

Hey everyone, to allow for normal discussion about this car's development all of the posts about the DDRS have been split off into a new thread. This now allows us to cover both topics without them hindering one another.

Comments on the actual splitting of this topic have been moved to their own place, as they're completely irrelevant to the Lotus car.

OK, so, I asked Lotus about possible placement of rear dampers in vertical position, they replied:
Rest assured our guys will have looked at any and every possibility on the technical side!

The original idea is from this animated video for Gazzetta Dello Sport.

I'm not sure Lotus even run side dampers at the rear. They don't always run them on the front, just a heave and roll damper.

Thanks for chiming in, Craig. Suspension is not my greatest field of knowledge, so clarity is always appreciated.

What you see as a vertical damper, is in fact the rocker and within that the torsion bar. The external arm visible on the rocker is for the Anti Roll Bar, other levers pass inside the gearcase and operate all the dampers and heave spring.

What is the operating principle of this vertical shock? Is it using high viscosity material to create drag?

Is this a viable design for a racing shock?
