A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Autosport had it as a suspension mounting problem on the day it happened.

The engine mount-thing was unlikely to be the problem since Lotus already knows the Renault engine.
"...and there, very much in flames, is Jacques Laffite's Ligier. That's obviously a turbo blaze, and of course, Laffite will be able to see that conflagration in his mirrors... he is coolly parking the car somewhere safe." Murray Walker, San Marino 1985

And it was reported as the steering feel strange, which would be a fancy engine mount if it's the case

Nom nom, hmmm, aluminium being one of the key materials on a formula 1 car, engine mount being one of the key aluminium parts,,,, I wonder,,,,, could they have had a hydraulic failure and destroyed the engine mounts? Is the hyrdaulics kept near the engine at all? 8)

Mercury? Wasn't that one of the left field ideas in the pre launch speculation thread for a different car?

Stick to the actual features of the Lotus E20 please.

The lotus E20 had innovative suspension, they may have modified it to add mecury into it, and it could explain the engine mount issues, I think it is on topic :D

It's fine, we appretiate the work you are doing, without you picking up on points like that in 3 seconds we could have been discussing the mercedes or something for example, your doing a great job :D
