So why were people saying merc had missed out on a load testing?

Looks to me like they have used it better than anybody. They have put a load of miles on the new car, yet perfectly benchmarked the new tyres on a car they know.

All that while hiding any secrets they had for a few weeks extra.

The new simulator provided them with a chance of added development of the new design, while not missing out on the testing at the same time. They have hopped a development phase. Ingenious. If the have tucked in 60-70 laps today, -knock on wood- the reliability is as expected so far. They have been mocked at for delaying the launch, and now they seem to be proving themselves.

Remember, it could be one of the 3 Exhausts they wanted to test before melbourne!

It looks like there is much of body roll in the car or is it the magic mercury suspension working. Or is it the front wing flexing or is it the track?

Every other team will also have done the 100km shakedown and 2 x 50km filming sessions, so don't get confused between Jerez mileage and AMG's so far.

Seems like Silverstone was filming day and Montmelo is shakedown so undoubtedly the Montmelo setup is the one we really need good photos of; even at BCN they may not run a configuration as close to the actual car as at Montmelo.

Anyone there with an SLR could make more from Autosport, AMuS or Coughlan than from posting them here, sadly

Montmelo is BCN. I think they may have run the configuration they're about to test on day 1. The neat thing is they've started off sooner than the rest at this circuit, if nothing else at least the initial setup work should be out of the way now.

As for roll IIRC someone did say the same thing about the W03's behaviour through the turns at Silverstone last week, could be something to it.

W03 had a second track outing today as we completed a private test in Barcelona... Michael drove this morning and Nico this afternoon
Over 300 kms completed for our testing programme with the new car...
To confirm: under the testing agreement, not running on the final day of the team test in Jerez allowed us to nominate a private test day
