Ferrari F2012 (pre-launch speculation)

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

"AUTOSPORT understands that Ferr is working on the front fDuct concept tried by Merc which redirects the airflow to cut drag at high speed"
Interesting where the deveoplemnt goes if true they will put combination of RRH and front F-duct toghether on front end of the car. The reports now suggesting that they work on both systems.

I'm surprised the FIA hasn't banned all of this yet. I'm sure they will for 2013, if somehow they don't (highly unlikely) then I'm 100% it will be with the new 2014 rules.

i mean with a bit of fiddling around with the height of the nose cone ahead of the front bulk head reducing it at 550mm the rules say this year...would it then be legal??

Lets use this as a guide for what noses would be legal.

I'm confused. After reading scarbs' blog I thought FIA lowered the maximum height of the bulkhead and not the nosecone (hence the 'upturned' nose on the scetch). Other sources suggest the opposite: 2011 bulkhead hight is still legal, but the nosecones must be lowered.

This is the new rule:

The 550mm height has to be at the end of the tub, section AA.

This drawing needs to be adjusted.

No, as I've said repeatedly, this is a common misunderstanding based on early reports of the rules. The exact rule is:
3.7.9 No bodywork situated more than 1950mm forward of rear face of the cockpit entry template may be more than 550mm above the reference plane.
This point is forward of the front bulkhead, not the front bulkhead.
