So they sculpted even more of the sidepod? As the exhaust now ends within this sculpted section oppose to slighty outside of it on the Old pic. Or am i wrong?

Well, to me it seems the exhaust plume is now being more "channeled". This could lead to more consistent sealing of the diffuser and better handling as the car would get more consistent downforce, rather than "peaky" or "pitchy" one.

Yep, it showed up in Malaysia and is still there in China. The different Motorsport magazines said teams questioned the stewards in Malaysia as they didn't think such a split in front of the rear tyre was legal. But it is.

How about the gap above the actual exhaust pipe. What does that accomplish?

Better "encloses" the exhaust gases with bodywork guided external airflow as opposed to just blasting the exhaust away from the body of the car due to the old exhaust tip poking out of the body?

They are using cooling air from the radiators to create down-wash rather than ambient air from over the sidepods like before. Also they needed more cooling exits for this race (hence the extra gills) so it seems logical to put them there as that area will be full of turbulent air already. (I think)
I've found a way of ducting exhaust right to the diffuser edge like in 2011 and created a new wheel fastener that could allow sub 2 second pitstops see them here --> My 2013 F1 Concept Project

That new Sauber exhaust looks like the Melbourne-spec Red Bull one. Interesting that they've gone there while Red Bull ditched it after a race; and now are perhaps thinking of ditching it entirely.

I think the key is that it lacks the "bridge" element.

IMHO this spec of exhaust works very good on Sauber, that doesn't mean that works with the RB8 too, because Newey has an other construction philosophy as C31.
Meanwhile M.Webber has less problem to drive the Rb8 as Vettel.
But Perez show for the second time how good the C31 swiss car is on all tracks conditions.

I'd argue he showed it was good in the wet/damp. FP1 was damp too. It hasn't shown world-beating pace in the dry.
