I just checked out the tread of my F1 front spindle and the spindle in a rear upright. Both have a Higbee or Blunt start thread. The first thread has a 45 deg pointed/wedge shaped ramp at the start of the thread. These units 6-10 years old.

Thanks strad, I learned something today.

I remember seeing this being mentioned during live timing but never saw a picture of the blue flo-vis until now.

That little hole that's at the base of the middle upright is not a reflection after all.

Bound to stoke more rumours of front wing blowing!

There is clearly a hole in the wing but not in the support pillar.

Little theory that Jenson only did one or two laps with the holed wing covered in flow-viz then it was packed away and sent back to MTC hence there not being many photos of the hole apart from that morning.

If the hole isn't part of a duct system what else could it be there for?

I'm not even convinced it's a hole, I think it could be a piece of carbon? just part of the construction?

But it doesn't appear in any other photos apart from the flow-fized wing Jenson ran in the morning, wouldn't the paint not cover the carbon like the other areas of the wing it has covered?

You can even see the channel(mini duct) right after the hole.

Perhaps its a mounting point for the test rig?

These all must be holes, then, for the duct.

Surely the most impressive thing about these ducts is how they disappear when looked at from a different angle...

Brian,,I guess that clears it up,,,they must have caught on at some point..Crossthreading used to be a huge problem and why you used to see them start the first turns by hand..they would have the nut in the gun but turn the socket part by hand..and the last time I watched Le Mans and sports racing they still did...guess we both learned something.
BTW..Thanks for the PDFs,,as you can imagine it's some thick wading for me..but helpful.
