Vodafone McLaren MP4-27 Mercedes

I assume thats the same nose as Jenson has in front just the angles are showing just how different the profile is.
McLaren have basically stepped their nose already, trying to maximise the area underneath the car. The problem with them is that their chassis/front bulkhead is also lower anyway, so the step isn't as noticeable.

Unless the FIA redo the rules to get rid of the stepped noses, you'll probably see the McLaren run a more 'conventional' stepped nose for next year, or maybe even this year if they make another chassis. It's obvious that maximising airflow underneath the car is the optimal solution...thus with these rules, ugliness... :(

Is the blue thing on the left side pod a reflection or is it somehow a component on the car?

cable for sensor i think. I think you can see the sensor on the endplate as well, that little black thing.

They did pit some metallic inserts onto the leading edge of the floor, it looks the same shape though so probably just to reduce dents and wear.

Kravitz reports that McLaren are only using the integral wheel nut system on the rear tyres, not the front. Interesting.

A case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" thinking? Perhaps attributing the problem with their nuts in part to the specific temperature & mechanical stresses that the rear wheels are constantly subjected to over a race?

Could it be a design / lead time on the parts? I'd imagine that such an important part would also need a fair bit of testing before being raced. They've probably concentrated their efforts on the problem end of the car with a view to then update the front as time / resources allow.

That's basically what Ted said the team told him. There had been no problems with the front thus no need to change.

This intergral wheel nut system is still new, the system has to be 100% proved before they can use it on all four wheels. Might be working for others and not mclaren.

The F1 axles I own are: steel for the rear and titanium for the front. Maybe the difference in material is the issue.
