the hole you see is for the driveshaft which is in line with the lower wishbone methinks.

A lovely, elegant, and as usual, simple solution. The angle they have the bodywork at behind the exhaust has been very well thought out and means they should get some nice attachment to get their exhaust flow to where they want it to go - lower down. They've put a lot of thought into this and there should be a lot of development mileage.

It looks to me like RBR with this exhaust design may be try to split the exhaust flow, by:
1) Having part of it spill over the outside of the side pods and travel towards the outer part of the diffuser, in an attempt to partially seal it.
2) Having the rest of the flow follow the contours over the top of the side pod and end passing over the diffuser and into the starter hole.

perhaps is to cool the gearbox

possibly. Point is, it's DEFINITELY NOT the upper wishbone

Red arrow is what was Marcush said about ...
Blue arrow is there a slot also? Like Ferrari is doing?
Purple arrow is for the new vane above the diffuser.

I might be wrong but seems to me that it has 2 purposes:
1)To divert the exhaust to the outer diffuser limits in order to create an air skirt, like they did last year,
2)To work in conjunction with the lower part of the RW end-plate, improving air extraction from the gills further down attached to it, hence a better diffuser ...

The rear brake wiglets has something to do with sealing the diffuser or just for giving them better rear DF ? ... or both?

Does anyone have a comparison from-the-top view of the old and new sidepods? I'd love to see how much wider they've become.

No it doesn't
I've seen (on discovery channel) how with a FLIR optic a spotter can follow the path of a bullet.
So why wouldn't we see where the RB8 blow's it's exhausts? :wink:

Trying to capture hot air against a very hot and nonuniform body work behind it would be very difficult.

It works when there's nothing behind the hot gas sure.
