For setup reasons. Tie it between two points and line up the ride height or whatever with the string.

I think this is feature is about cooling the wheel bearing.

Looks like an old-fashioned wheel alignment.

This was talked about during the AusGP this year, where the Aussie commentators were almost mocking it, saying that with the hundreds of millions of dollars spent by an F1 team, basic wheel alignment is still left to a $3 ball of string..

Didn't seem like it.

A lot of the teams were going back and forth between old and recently developed/tweaked components.

Actually, the area directly behind the exhaust seemed to be different.

The bridge looked more like the old sauber exhaust and there seemed to be a more dramatic "drop" in the exhaust channel.

The channel seemed to be more closed off at the point of exit than before.

Hopefully a few pics will confirm it and not label me as a hallucinating psychobabbler.

Well here's the new version with big drop off and the duct. But I can't find where the duct exits in this shot though.
