A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.
Shouldn't we as mercedes fans start worrying about the drop-off per lap. If I look at the earlier test week and this first day. The drop-off per lap is way to big compared to the top 3.
Massa 8 lap dropoff was 1.3 sec.
Rosberg 8 lap dropoff was 2.2 sec.
Webber did 2 4 laps stint with dropoff 0.5 sec.
Ofcourse they are on different tyres (tyre life) and fuel loads. But even when you run hard tyres with a lot of fuel. 2.2 sec dropoff in 8 laps is really to much. Last year in the race laps would increase with 2 sec after 12-15 laps not 8 laps.
I hope they find a good setup to battle this problem, because Ferrari obviously found there sweet spot. Hope we can find it before this test ends.
Irvine:"If you don't have a good car you can't win it, unless you are Michael or Senna. Lots of guys won in Adrian Newey's cars, big deal. Adrian is the real genius out there, there is Senna, there is Michael and there is Newey. They were the three great talents."

There was a Bawn quote from the end of the last test saying just that - they wanted to understand how best to utilise new tyres - push hard early or treat them nicely!
