On the subject of tyre degradation. Mercedes have said that the the temperatures at Barcelona are low and due to the amount of testing the track has a lot more rubber down than there would be at a GP weekend, so no conclusions can be drawn. However I'm slightly pessimistic about this. Although the absolute figures for degradation won't be the same I'm sure the pattern is correct, the Mercedes has worse tyre degradation than the Lotus and the Redbull. Can someone with superior knowledge of tyre degradation put my mind at rest?

To be honest i don't think the tires will be a huge issue. If you look at that graph merc have about the same drop off as the rest of the field in the irst few laps on them. Also when i looked at it it seems that mercs lap times steadied out more that of Redbull or the Ferrari camp.

the official press release tells us : car length is 4800mm .so we can decifer the wheelbase from that assuming both front and rear overhangs are mandated by the regs ? (with a little uncertainty with regard to nose cone length....

It's not 4800mm, WAY too short, maybe W02 was that short, but that kind of length is approximate of 2008 cars, before the refueling ban.

doesn't matter what they say it is aprox: 5000mm long , wheelbase is 34XXmm.

Measured with ruler.
Measured again, again with ruler: 5200mm long, Wheelbase 3520mm

just find out how tall one of the drivers is and find a pic of them standing next to the car with the photo taken at a side angle if you want to calculate the length with any accuracy

I'd use the distance from the front of the FW to the back of the front wheel.
I've found a way of ducting exhaust right to the diffuser edge like in 2011 and created a new wheel fastener that could allow sub 2 second pitstops see them here --> My 2013 F1 Concept Project
