Ferrari 2014 Car Pre-launch Speculation

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I tried to google an image. but no joy.

they do say that the new engines will be shorter. as shortening the wheel base does not seem to be an option ( merc tried it a few years ago)
maybe this year they will try something funky :)

no idea what advantage it would have mind you
I Ferrari were really having trouble with the weight limit then they'd reduce the wheelbase. The biggest problem with that is the smaller floor are and this less downforce. More so than any mechanical disadvantage.

finally found an image

just wondering if this would be an option

I think it was in the 2014 design thread I talked about this. But yes I really do think this could be an option either next year or the year after that (when sidepods will have shrunk compared to next year).

But the new standard side impact structures are larger than the ones used today. This means that sidepods will be wider at the front. So I really think it is an option to separate the side impact structure from the sidepods and create wings or flow diverters with them.

If your answer is: "The FIA!", keep it to yourself. :D
Saw this on the web a couple of days a go... Absolutely stunning design!

Sadly not. The rules state that there can be no closed section around the crash tubes when you take a cross section parallel to the centreline of the car....effectively bans wings around the tubes.

Ratio hunter  Yes yes i know what you doing. :D Bv. i cant wait!

So hell now just Merc wait a very longtime... They must be pretty conviced that they design really step out of rest of field. Maybe there is more out of box thinking like we maybe imagine... I just play with my thougts... Of course if some one want continue discussion must do that in this engine speculation forum...
