Force India VJM07 Pre-launch Speculation

No surprise but Andy Green confirms the ant bear nose.

Very nice interview with Andy green! I recommend all non-german speakers to google translate it.
Here some highlights, translated at the end.
Die Effizienz blieb also annähernd gleich.

With former rule changes the downforce was reduced, but drag stayed the same. This time downforce is reduced but also drag.
As a consequence, top speeds will be 10-15Km/h faster.
In the past, at full throttle, exhaust gases contributed 10 to 15% extra downforce.
...
They are not done with simulating the eight gears for all tracks, but he expects that in some tracks only 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th gears will be used. 8th probably will only be used in Monza and Spa, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd only at starts (plus pit stops, I guess).
...
The car is right now over the 690Kg limit. It will take some development steps before they hit the limit.
...
Cooling needs are about 125% of what they were last year.
The rules dictate the air intake to be where the roll hoop is. Otherwise they would put then in the sidepods.

So there's less downforce and the Suzuka hairpin is now a 4th gear corner - got it ;)

More of a PR and moral boost as they are running late (as usual) due to money being slow to come in(as usual)
They fired up the car last week and it will by now be packed and on it's way to Jerez ready for the test next week.
The first engine was delivered only recently and was only being unboxed yesterday to start the build late afternoon afaik

would be interested in your source

5.14.1 With the exception of incidental leakage through joints or cooling ducts in the inlet system
(either into or out of the system), all air entering the engine must enter the bodywork through
a maximum of two inlets which are located :
a) Between the front of the cockpit entry template and a point 500mm forward of the rear
wheel centre line longitudinally.
b) No less than 200mm above the reference plane vertically.
c) On vertical cross-sections normal to the car centre line.
Furthermore, any such inlets must be visible in their entirety when viewed from the front of
the car and without the driver seated in the car.

I don't see how that dictates the intake must be in roll hoop

You need a roll hoop, you may as well use for more than one thing. Same reason they've been there for the last god knows how long.

I wont doubt Andy's words but I find his comment on the weight limit rather interesting.

IF I'm correct, most teams have reached the 600kg weight limit since around 1999. In the time since then, parts have been made lighter making them further under the weight limit. In the time we have also seen the switch to a, most likely, lighter engine.

Now the weight limit has been raised with a total of 90kg. What caused such a large increase(I think we can easily say 120kg) in unballasted weight?

There is a minimum weight for the engine and ES, turbo and all the electric do-dats is also also weight

Speaking to guys at FI they said they would meet the minimum weight no problem but just have a lot less ballast to work with. Which is why IMO lots of teams were playing the media with saying they couldn't hire tall drivers and other half truths in order to get the limit raised so they could utilise more ballast.

Well, yes, ballast still gives a performance gain, there was an advantage in using short, light drivers even over the past few years, it's even worse now.

Right, but having a driver make you 5kg over weight is much much more significant than having 5kg less ballast.

And of course they would just tell you personally exactly where they have in production status? Making a complete chassis takes something like at least 36-48 hours using the pre-preg method the F1 constructors use.
