Red Bull RB10 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

This is only my opinion, but the 'r-flap' or r'-wing' generated an outwards flowing vortex, which combined with the trailing edges on the wing elements and the under-chassis turning vanes to increase its rotational velocity. This then flowed around the side of the sidepods, further energised by the barge-boards and turning vanes. It ended up flowing directly across the gap between the tyre and the diffusers edge.

A diffuser on its own will form an inwards flowing vortex, however the strong outwards flowing vortex generated by the front wing and turning vanes cancels out this rotation, and could even conceivably feed into the diffuser.

For 2014 the significant reduction in the beam wing and narrower dimensions of the rear wing have a knock on effect to the diffusers efficiency, essentially decreasing its performance potential and therefore the inwards flowing vortex that is generated by the diffusers edge is of much less intensity. Therefore teams must feel that the outwards flowing vortex that is still generated by the front wing is sufficient to cancel out this effect at the diffuser.

They need engine power and improvements for drivability and energy recovery/release. I think > 90% of testing will be related to power unit.

Is there a bulge under the nose? First time I see it

Is he just talking about harvesting/balance?
Downshifts were a mess. I spotted it even before we got vettel's radio confirmation. car was bouncing all over the place when he downshifted and Vettel's head was snapping back and forth. Clearly something was wrong.
If you're talking about davidson on sky not noticing anything, he's a moron anyway and gets it wrong 10 times for every once he's right (same as all sky pundits).
That's a bit harsh in my opinion. Davidson spent 6 seasons in F1 (4 as a driver) and the last 4 years as a test driver and simulator developer for Mercedes. I think he is too informed to be called a moron. The other pundits between them have 447 races, 58 podiums and 25 wins of experience. They have friends who currently drive, friends who are managers, friends who work in teams. They mix and socialise within the F1 circus so they should not be totally dismissed by people on this forum. I admire Vettel as a driver, but i never remember him being beaten by a team mate without having a problem slowing him down. His self confidence is one of his strongest assetts.

He doesn't mean the keel part of the nose; behind it there's a bulge which does appear to be new.

I like how the car looks in this guise, very clean and neat.

Front wing is a piece of art.

mmh, maybe it is a bit bigger now (or it's just the perspective), it has been there from the beginnig on like gandarvha said... (on page 4;7 good pics of it)
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

Looks as if RBR have hacked off some bodywork at the rear of the canon.
