I just saw a F1 car, and i can't identify it.

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I just saw a F1 car, and i can't identify it.

Post

It seems that reddit.com/r/formula1 couldn't figure out what this is, so maybe you guys could help

http://imgur.com/a/p1BUY

I went to the mall and BURN were handing out samples. As an eye catcher they had an Lotus F1 car from 2013 -- or at least that what was the man who actually brought the car there told me, and i couldn't convince him otherwise.
However, there are allot of things wrong with this car for it to have raced in 2013: Diffuser, exhaust, sidepods, nose and suspension to name a few.

I think this car is a pre-2009 car with new front and rearwing. However, i can't figure out exactly what this car it is. It must be some kind of Frankenstein-car, but can anyone say exactly what car this is?

It should be said that the car was beautiful, and it is nice to see that the Kevin Magnussen effect is finally stating here in Denmark :D

oh, and btw, this i kinda a first post with original content, so hi guys, you are awesome.

its a mixture of one of the old ING sponsored ones , maybe R28? and new livery/modded nose and possibly other parts

Can't be R28 or R29. It has post 2008 wings.

*post-2009 wings

And it has a pre-2009 diffuser.

It's a mashup of several cars. Sidepods look very R28/R29, wing is from 2011.

F1 teams take parts of different cars mix them together, repaint them, and label them wrongly.
It is in fact what you say: a Frankenstein car.
It is a shame they do that. Once I even saw one of these fake cars in a museum.

I believe it's the R28 (mostly), given the sidepods:

Well, what do you think? What idea could you possibly have to put a moderator at his place?

(joking :P. thanks for the notice; got a bit tangled up in the numbers)

R27. It's tub isn't downsloping like the R28, and it doesn't have the sidepod intake shape of the R26.

Don't let your new (imo well earned) position go to your head so quickly! :D

I think you're right for the sidepods. Although it looks like they created that coke-bottle shape from scratch. Or is this what the R28 always looked like without the aero appendages in front of the rear wheels?

Ah, that's the show car, I've seen it in Spain. It's based on R31.

Correct. The suspension pickup points are the best reference:

So summary until now:
-2007 tub
-2008 sidepods
-2011 front wing.

Well thanks folks. I thought i looked wierd, and endeed it was a frankenstein.

Also the man was very persisting that he owned the car AND that it raced in 2013. But that must have been shitload a load of BS.

One thing that is quite interesting though, is to see the sidepods of an pre-2009 car without all the aerobits. It is actually very difficult to identify the sidepods.
