New bare McLaren sidepods. What I find interesting are the lack of vortex generators visible. Makes me wonder if they are going to switch to a new design for that area. One option can be leading edge slots at the top/front of the sidepods that do a similar job in a different way.

The Surface shown on the Picture isn't the Top of the Sidepods, i don't think the Vortex Generators are visible from that angle.

Edit:
Found a Picture from a different Angle (of course from the Austin GP)

New exhaust manifolds .. so that's why it sounded so different. They haven't gone crazy insulating it though, wonder what's that about.

Does someone have pictures from Alonsos Car in FP1 in Russia?
The new exhaust manifold looks bulkier than the old log (logically....), has it had an impact on the body around the engine?

You are 100% correct. Surprised I didn't notice that myself. For some reason when I looked my brain told me that I was looking at the top of the sidepods.

Ah well, the game of spot the differences clearly got to my head.

Actually they could've even saved some space. https://twitter.com/RoboCoP_G/status/657065946776018944

Wow, thanks for posting this. Indeed it looks they managed not to use more space. :o

Looks to me like they had this planned from the beginning. Otherwise I see no reason not to angle the log manifold up, like they've done with the new one.

They are indeed even less abstructive, specially at the end towards the gearbox.

Perhaps this was changed mid-season to accomodate the final stage ?

it's an equal length exhaust manifold (better app.) just made to fit the space they have in my opinion

Didn't take long to copy Ferrari floor slots, McLaren sees Ferraris 8 & raises to 11 edge slots plus 2 corner slots
