Red Bull RB11 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Its a simple version the mechanics use, the real ones are kinda expensive.

I noticed the cutout for the teatray, and cannot understand how the FIA can't deduct that this is purposely made to move. If they only wanted to protect it mechanically then the forward slot for an upward movement of the tray would be enough. But the same distance to the rear? That has nothing to do with installation of the cover or tolerances, that is done to allow the tray to actuate/tilt downward.

For pit stop practice when a mechanic "drives" the car, they just need to be able to hold the front wheels steady. The race wheels are shaped to the drivers' hands and are expensive items so using a simple, cheap alternative is probably sensible.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Haven't seen it mentioned but regarding the flowvis on the helmet: Ted said on his notebook that the little wing/flap on the back of the helmet was actually preventing air getting into the cooling hole below the airbox. They've removed the flap off the helmet which means the helmet is now generating a small amount of lift, but the drivers said it was acceptable.

Hmm. Seems the elliptical side-pod was already optimized from last year.

"It does have more power," team boss Horner confirmed to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, "but it is not evenly distributed.

"There is still a problem with driveability," he added.
Looks more and more like Newey was spot on. He knew(ey) what was comming
