Ferrari 667 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Yes, that is frustrating.

But also highlights that more high level documentation is really what is needed. An engine formula that said simply:

- cars must complete a race distance on 100kgs of fuel
- manufacturers must supply up to (for example) 3 further teams over and above a works team if requested
- the cost of a supply must be no more than x million euros

Might have produced more interesting and varied results. Points two and three are essentially going to be covered off shortly (and easy for me to say with benefit of hindsight) but dictating that engine must be x size, with x number of cylinders in x configuration, must recover energy in x ways (and no others) seems needlessly restrictive.

And the part about the impression of awe and speed is the most depressing for me because the reality has turned out that it's been lost via tyre choices (brought about by fuelling regs) rather than the engines; not only that but no one has any intention of rectifying their mistakes.

It's all there in the outline. They just ignored it.

They even recognized the disastrous consequences of in-season homologation...

Thanks for posting these images. It indeed gives great insight. The FIA and manufacturers have failed miserably. The knowledge and foresight is there, but somehow the people in charge have been naive in their decision making.

Anyway, this discussion might actually belong in the PU thread..

Yeah. The nose failed a few times, but it should be halfway between 2015 Mercedes and Toro Rosso's noses.
The most interesting thing is the possibility that Ferrari may have developed a long nose as well, so that they can switch depending on the circuit level drag demand. Not confirmed, just a rumour, but it would great.

Certainly a nice looking livery - reminds me of 2007. Not sure I trust it though.

The theme of modern Ferrari cars is to have features like designer clothing. So you are only going to see smooth curves and "cuts" in the bodywork, or in the case of F1 the livery.

It would be nice if they go full red (or Scarlet???), with just labels of white, rather than patches of white or black applied. And also the complete red overalls. I hate those white patches on both car and the team gears. Not sure if that has something to do with Marlboro.

It seems that this year the white color will have an important presence in the livery: https://goo.gl/zppbN3

That source is quite reliable.

Agreed. I'd like to see something similar to the 2007 launch livery (before the bar codes):

Image

But I think you allude to the truth of it: the whole thing is a subliminal advert for malboro, mimicking the logo in as much of a way as they can get away with (I think they had to change one because it was too blatant?)

Correct, the barcode design a while back was deemed to be advertising.

AFAIK Philip Morris (Marlboro) more or less cover the entire racing budget outside of FOM payments, and own the entire car in terms of sponsors - all sponsorship is at their discretion.

Subliminal-tastic.
