McLaren MP4-31 Honda

The sensors on the brake ducts are by far the most interesting thing I've seen on the chassis all year.

Also, do I spy a new, or tweaked floor? Or have those little silver metal bits at the edge of the floor and tea tray always been there?

What do the brake duct sensors sense?

Airflow I'd imagine.

From the close up, to me they look like tiny little pressure sensors, so yes, my guess would be pressure/airflow.

Thanks.

Looks like McLaren have decided they can find some pace from management/understanding of the brake duct flow. Last week we saw some fared structures in front of the brake duct entrances and now an array of sensors.

Once again reminds us of how much detail goes into F1 aero and that it is much more than pressing the car to the road. Managing the brake/tyre interaction seems to be at least of equal importance.

Perhaps the days of brake duct inlet adjustment with tape are numbered?

What is that on the neutral section on the front wing?

Have those metal parts on the bottom of the barge boards and leading edge of the tea tray always been there?

That's the Ballast Weights. Pretty much every Team has them there.

Evening Gents

Quick couple of questions about that new Rear Wing that was introduced back in Austria this year,

http://www.f1technical.net/development/ ... -endplates

i. Is it ever going to be raced this year or next?
ii. Which circuit would it have made or makes the most sense to use such a set-up?

Thanks
If you're never over eight-tenths or whatever, because you're thinking about a shunt, you're not going as quick as you can. And if you're not doing that, you're not a racing driver

They were on the edge. As a rule of thumb cars need 10kph difference to be able to simply sail past an opponent and Alonso had 9kph to the best. (He was on 346kph.) Button was on 349kph, only 6kph down, but possibly due to a bit of tow.

But this is not a given to stay the same for the race as they must be undecided on downforce levels judging by how many types of rear wings they brought here. (Previous page.)
