Renault R.S.16

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Is it just me or we don't have a f***ing idea about which is the actual 2016 car?

Because they could have used a 2015 car back at Enstone for the photo shoot with the new livery so it would look like 2016's airbox?
"...and there, very much in flames, is Jacques Laffite's Ligier. That's obviously a turbo blaze, and of course, Laffite will be able to see that conflagration in his mirrors... he is coolly parking the car somewhere safe." Murray Walker, San Marino 1985

As far as I go, they don't even produced a new chassis, instead just adapted the existing one a bit to acommodate the Renault PU. A bit of doing a Marussia move.

For the rest: Enstone is known for Frankenstein cars. Let's not be overfocussed on this as there are enough details to notice this. For instance the photo shoot pictures show a rendered car with a 2014 prototype nose on it.

That is the 2014 Lotus complete with the weird thumb nose they tested in preparation for lower noses in 2015.

Not the RS.16.

Renault used very old and/or odd cars for the livery reveal because they are probably really short on recent-vintage cars right now after several years of emergency-tight budgets. If you were the team manager and you didn't have enough money to get your garages and paddock spaces unlocked at the next race then you looked at all your prior cars sitting around and saw dollar signs. Or Euro signs. Wonder if any collector got a screamin' deal on a 2013 or 2014 Lotus/Renault car?

The nose looks exactly like the one Lotus used after the 2014 season to test what a 2015 spec nose would look/perform like.

They're showing the low and high cooling bodywork in one shot.

Second to last picture... Is that a crack where the wishbone enters the chassis?

Matte Yellow looks absolutely stunning.
