Red Bull RB13 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

But it shouldn't be there since the 2017 Regs don't allow a Beam Wing.

I like it!
Just forgot the beam wing there.
It's there. As a matter of fact, this is one of the few mockups who feature it
When I say he forgot it, I mean he forgot to erase it. I didn't know it would come back for next season.

I'm more curious about the details of the barge boards, what we have now pales in comparison to what we'll see.

They will be much more complex for sure. 2008 featured these kind of barge boards:

Yes, but wheels will be more distant from the chassis doe to the increase to 200cm of the maximum width of the car, so maybe air flow around the bodywork will be different with respect to 2008.

Of course. The reference to 2008 was just an illustration of the amount of complexity we can expect, but how the details will be filled in is still an unknown.

Also mind that 9 years of increased aerodynamic knowledge and advancements in being able to create more complex bodywork pieces, will have its impact as well.

I fully expect Red Bull to go with organically shaped bargeboards again, contrary to the Mercedes serration-style. I doubt that we will find out in pre-season testing, surely there will be massive development in this area, and updates being taken to the first GP.

Wrong, the beam wing will be back next year. Red Bull even had one in the Pirelli tests

They had one exactly because the rules do not allow the beam wing next year and the mule cars were not allowed to have 2017 aero on them.

So no beam wing next year. That is a fact cleared up by quite a few people. I'll even take the 2017 regulations alongside it:

See for yourself going from article 3.9. If I have time, I'll draw it.

Not to forget that there were many features on the "mule cars" that aren't allowed in 2017. Ferrari's side skirts, just to name one.
If you no longer go for the space someone always has to leave, you're no longer a racing driver

Having read multiple articles like this one, I was under the assumption the beam wing would make a more than welcome return

I see. Now I understand where you got the impression from. It certainly does not help that the official f1 site is misleading with the shown images, even if no mentioning of the beam wing in the text itself.

Do note the date of the article: made at the beginning of the year. Talks were still ongoing about the regulation set. The beam wing certainly was at the table, but ultimately did not make it.
