Williams FW40 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Interesting that they have a low downforce front wing, but the rear wing looks the same to me.
Their rear wing is already n low drag wing. As you can see it's delta shaped.

No it's not, it's the exact same wing they have ran all season.

That is what is strange to me, if they take away downforce in the front, they have to balance it with less downforce at the back. I can't see the same wing that they used in Monaco beeng so adjustable, but maybe I am wrong.

Not exactly the same all season, upgraded the end plates several stations ago, maybe in Chinese gp. But it is true that no big change all the season.

It looked to me that both cars were running full downforce in Fp1.

Williams discovered that it was too light on downforce in Baku last year, when the team set record straightline speeds, and Massa confirmed that it has changed its philosophy.

"This year I believe we are in the right range, so it should be better," he said.

There were discoloured circles around about that place on the monocoque since testing and at the back of my mind I've been wondering when something would be attached.

This is an early pic thanks to LookBackTime at day 1 testing.
