Those fins after the exits appear to direct exhaust away for the diffuser???

Close examination of every blown exhaust system indicates an effort that "looks like" the exhaust is being directed away from the diffuser, but the ultimate flow is as Shelly states. This is probably all about feeding the vortex in the most efficient manner possible.
