I think it is more that the matter is now closed (as far as Jean Todt is concerned). Sooner or later the details of the letters will be leaked on Twitter or in the press so I think he is just pre-empting another over-hyped media frenzy.

That is a good call I did jump over to Newsnow.uk and did not see any articles addressed as aggressively as the first one. Autosport even had the quotes in proper English and the term transparent in defining Hamilton’s fault is lacking from the articles I read.

I think this settles it:

Q: Having spoken to Jean Todt, and the FIA, do you agree with the penalties now?
LH:
I have seen the tape now, and the view that you have in the car is much different than the view from out of the car, or what other people see. Still I would say that in such occasions it is not always just one person to blame, unless you fully ram into someone’s back. But of course being the car behind, also I would say I was more to blame than the car that was in front. It is not even easy to see the car, as there is a blind spot as well. Then of course drivers would defend their positions, too. I was rather thinking that perhaps it was more like 80-20, or 70-30, me being more responsible for the fault. Either way I felt that for my relationship with the other drivers, and mostly because of the things that I said afterwards, I felt it was important to correct that and apologize for that.

I'm not sure that an interview with a driver who's just been told "behave - you were way too close to getting a 6 race ban" really settles anything. That said, I do think we've entirely argued it out, all relevant points have been raised, and we should drop it.

So, for saying a few things you shouldnt say you are getitng close to a 6 race ban, and a guy like Sutil who causes someone harm on track and outside the paddock can walk free and hapily? Ridiculous, words dont hurt, actions do.

Todt was being sarcastic.

It can't be right to ban a driver for speaking defensively, as ill informed as it is.

If they ban Hamilton it would be admission of guilt, and it would reflect poorly of the sport.

In his mind, Hamilton doesn't agree with them, he just wants to get them off his back. So saying anything nice will put the situation behind both him and the FIA.
For Sure!!

Hey folks. I just noticed something funny on the Monaco 2011 Race Edit on the FOM website. If you watched it; at a section showing Jenson; beginning at 1:43, you'll see his DRS flap was open. Now this shouldn't be an issue; except that if I got my bearings right in the video; it's not actually in the pit straight (where the DRS zone was). Or am I wrong?

That is not the pit straight. Looks like, Massenet/Casino.

@Hampus - yes; that's what I thought too.
@Mandrake - historically they never have done that. But technically there's nothing stopping them doing that.

Are we sure that it is infact open though? It sure looks like it but maybe it could be due to the angle at which we see the wing?

If we would have had the camera at "head-height" the hole might be smaller?

If you let the video roll on until the end of the shot; you'll see that the slot gap closes.

True, did not notice that at first. Surely that must be Q footage.
I take it Charlie can see if people use it in other places?

I remember the same thing happening with Alonso in China after the hairpin; so not sure what to think about it. It looks like he just went through Beau Rivage and into the Massenet/Casino complex

Yea maybe it was a delay in the DRS activation like for Alonso.
Seems like an odd place for DRS in any way though since it´s basically a second of throttle there before going into Casino.
