Not with the current times but I am too lazy to make a new one...
Seemed like they where more concerned with checking tire degradation under varying conditions than anything else. They told Lewis over the radio that they saw no deg on any of the tires.

I think one thing is certain from this race :

$troll is crashing
Even though it was a given, I applaud your clairvoyance
Well predicted Sir.

Stroll should treat this weekend as a free pass to be crap
No fine is expecting anything from him apart from crashing. He should just relax drive round safely learning what he can focus on amount of laps only not times. Then judge him in Canada where its easy and the Williams should be decent

Mercedes lack of pace in FP2 was strange given that they went faster in FP1.

One thing i noticed however was Hamilton complaining about how he couldn't get the SS up to temperature no matter how many laps he took.
Coupled with the low deg of the US this makes an undercut nearly impossible.

I should have made a bet, but it would have been futile to make such predictable bet.

But wait!!! $troll's contribution is still not completed yet, he is crashing again on Saturday and then again on Sunday.

I hope [the deficit] is not real," Bottas told reporters afterward. "We made some changes for FP2, some mechanical changes, and went in the wrong direction - Lewis as well. We definitely struggled.

"We know how to fix, but other cars are looking good as well.

Wolf on Merc's incorrect FP2 setup direction.

I'd say the front runners will stay out until there is a vsc or safety car after 25 laps or so.

I'm not saying it's the same at all - sure Mercedes will be on the pace or close to it in quali - but does remind me of Singapore '15:

- Mercedes strong in FP1 but then somehow it all disappears
- Mercedes struggling to get tyres in temp range
- Vettel about 0.5 secs ahead of Ricciardo with Kimi close behind
- (obviously also a street circuit)

Just funny the coincidences.

"We'll see. If that's genuine then it reminds me a little bit of Singapore '15. If that's the case, beauty, but I expect them to be... If we all get it together on Saturday, it should be a three-way fight."

91 kg of fuel used on a 260 km long race, while only 54% full throttle. You can be sure they're filling to the brink at every other race.

He's at it again, daddy's $80 mil injection into the team won't last long at this rate:

Vettel two tenths behind, not bad taking into account that Ferrari seems to improve during the weekend , so we could see a nice battle for the pole.
and Vettel barely did any fast laps in order to be that close, on FP1, while the others(the Mercedes, RBs, Toro Rossos) did tones of fast laps. It was no surprise to me that Vettel was confortably faster than anybody esle, on FP2, even with little running again.

Bar problems on his car, a crash, or tones of mistakes, I can't see anybody on pole other than Vettel(my prediction is mid 1.11). Raikkonen will be 0.5s behind and between the two will be the RBs and Mercedes(maybe even a Toro Rosso)

Vettel stated he's going to try and qualify right before the race to wait for maximum track evolution, in order to give him a chance at the pole time. Hamilton said he's going to swap cars with Button in order to give Vettel a fair chance.
 brilliant post. It was very frustrating reading a few pages of the 2016 thread and seeing the fanboyism related to Hamilton there. I think smart humour like yours is a good antidote

Looking at Max's driving i'd say there's a good chance of "redemption" this time.
Yes. He has been solidly quick all day but this redemption will not come as pole/win, I'm afraid, and the best he and Ricciardo will be able to do, imho, is fight the Mercedes(who might have hidden their pace, regardless of the alleged bad setup for FP2, because Kvyat was just 0.68s slower on FP1, despite using the SS)

If you replace "Vettel" with "Hamilton" in the quote above, it fits the description below perfectly.

On the race part....

Looking at the long run times, Mercedes seems (or as they have been putting it across) to be struggling to get heat into the tyres, but once they put heat in, their long run pace is on par with the Vettel's times.
Vettel was doing mid 1m15.xxx, which is what Bottas did on a few laps where he did manage to run.
Red Bull were doing high 1m15.xxx, placing them to be third, as usual.
Toro Rosso were doing low 1m16.xxx.
Force Indias were doing similar times to Toro Rosso. Could be a tenth or two behind TR.
Williams is behind both of them, doing high 1m16.xxx.
